Randi's Story: 15 Years of Helping Women Feel Whole
By Randi, Board Certified Mastectomy Fitter
How a calling became a career - and why every fitting still matters.
People always ask me how I got into mastectomy fitting. It's not exactly a career you see on a list in high school.
The truth is, this work found me. And once it did, I never looked back.
How It Started
More than 15 years ago, I began working in the medical products space and was introduced to mastectomy fitting. I'll never forget my first fitting - the woman was nervous, quiet, and unsure. She'd been avoiding this appointment for months.
By the end of our session, she was standing in front of the mirror, tears streaming down her face, saying: "I look like me again."
That moment changed my life.
I realized that this wasn't about selling products. This was about restoring something that cancer had tried to take - not just a physical shape, but a sense of wholeness, of normalcy, of identity.
I got certified. I studied. I trained with every major brand. And I dedicated myself to becoming the best fitter I could be, because these women deserved nothing less.
What I've Learned
Fifteen years and thousands of fittings later, here's what I know:
Every Woman's Story Is Different
No two fittings are the same because no two women are the same. Some come in ready and decisive. Some need to talk first. Some cry. Some laugh. Some bring their husbands, their mothers, their best friends. Some come alone and prefer it that way.
There is no "normal" response to mastectomy. There is only YOUR response, and it's always valid.
The Fitting Is About More Than Products
Yes, I'm fitting a breast form and bras. But what I'm really doing is creating a safe space for a woman to be vulnerable, to be seen, and to reclaim a part of herself.
The 45 minutes we spend together? That's not a transaction. It's a turning point.
Small Things Matter Enormously
The right bra strap that doesn't slip. A form that matches perfectly. A swimsuit that makes you want to go to the pool again. These seem like small things - but for a woman who hasn't felt like herself in months, they're everything.
Insurance Shouldn't Be a Barrier
One of the things that frustrates me most is when women don't get the products they need because they didn't know insurance covered them, or because the billing process felt too complicated. That's why I handle insurance billing for my clients. You should be focused on your fitting, not your paperwork.
Why I Started Restored by Randi
After years of working for others, I wanted to create something different - a boutique experience that puts the woman first. Not a store. Not a medical supply company. A space.
Restored by Randi is built on three principles:
-
Every woman deserves privacy and dignity. My fitting room is private. There's no waiting room full of strangers. It's just you and me.
-
Every woman deserves expertise. I'm Board Certified and I know these products inside and out. I'll find your perfect fit.
-
Every woman deserves compassion. This isn't a transaction. It's a relationship. I remember your name, your preferences, your story. When you come back next year for new bras, I'll ask about your grandkids.
The Moments That Keep Me Going
- The woman who went swimming for the first time in three years after I fitted her with a mastectomy swimsuit.
- The woman who told me her husband didn't even notice the difference - and she meant it as the highest compliment.
- The woman who brought me flowers a year later to say thank you.
- The woman who called me from the parking lot before her appointment because she was too nervous to come in - and left an hour later hugging me.
These moments are why I do this. Every single day.
My Promise to You
If you walk through my door - whether it's your first fitting or your fifteenth - I promise you:
- You will be treated with warmth, respect, and genuine care
- You will never feel rushed
- You will never feel pressured to buy anything
- You will leave feeling better than when you arrived
Cancer takes a lot. But it doesn't get to take your confidence, your femininity, or your sense of self. Not on my watch.
You are whole. You are beautiful. You are restored.
Welcome. I'm so glad you're here.
